At Oakwood Academy, we believe that the best outcomes for children are achieved when families, educators and practitioners work together as partners. We have seen the most significant process in children whose families understand and actively engage with the Developmental, Individual-differences, Relationship-based (DIR) model. This approach focuses on each child’s unique developmental profile and emphasizes building strong supportive relationships rather than focusing on modifying behaviour. By adopting a developmental perspective, we prioritize and understand the reasons behind child’s behaviour and work towards fostering emotional, social and cognitive growth.
We strongly encourage parents to join us in this journey by learning about the DIR model and integrating its principals into daily life. To support the DIR journey, we offer various parent coaching opportunities, parent training workshops and parent coffees. Your involvement and commitment to this developmental approach will help create a consistent, nurturing environment both at home and at school, leading to the most meaningful and sustained progress for your child.
In addition to parent coaching, workshops and coffees, we encourage families to attend our parent orientation as well as our welcome mix and mingle.
