At Oakwood Academy, the classroom is only part of what we do! Each day, we strive to support our students’ development as a whole — cognitively, physically and emotionally. A large part of our programming is supported by our multidisciplinary team, including an Occupational Therapist, Speech Language Pathologist and Music Therapist. These professionals support our students’ ability to navigate their physical world, as well as to relate, engage and communicate with others.
At Oakwood Academy, our Individual Education Plan – IEP method focuses on transitions to meet the individual needs of each child. Our team of developmental therapists and specialist educators facilitates strong foundational relationships with students to reinforce their strengths and develop new skills and knowledge.
Students can learn with an Individual Education Plan – IEP and a structured multisensory approach where safe and supervised experiences enhance their social, emotional, physical, and cognitive skills.

Children who need assistance with communication, social and emotional skills, cognitive abilities, and physical challenges, will thrive in a safe transitional environment. Social and emotional learning are as crucial as academic components. Our transitions support children to grow at a comfortable pace as they progress to larger groups and eventually integrate with traditional classes and academic programs when the time is right.
We offer 1-on-1 education for children who need intensive social and emotional learning support before interacting regularly with their peers. Students can transition to a 1:4 program and a 1:7 program when their social and emotional learning progresses to a point where they are safe and comfortable. We also offer a Jump Start Program combining social and emotional learning with academic subjects. It’s the ideal program for students and families eager to learn and integrate with traditional classrooms.
Our students learn through collaboration, observing their peers, and interacting with students in different age groups. A transitional structure ensures an appropriate amount of interactive learning and play based on your child’s progression.
We meet every child at their current level to ensure the environment is suited to them. A tailored Individual Education Plan – IEP, helps guide each stage, but we also consider other factors like emotional regulation, adjustment to peers, and intellectual and physical challenges.
